A Website and an App for a Farm-Based Nonprofit

A Website and an App for a Farm-Based Nonprofit
Background
Blackwood Land Institute is a Houston-area nonprofit that connects people, especially young people, to land, food and ecological knowledge. Its programs run on the Landfarm in Hempstead, Texas, and on the Skyfarm: Nature Camp, Farm School, school and group visits, open farm days and a full calendar of public events.
A small team runs all of it. Events live in Eventbrite, the newsletter lives in Constant Contact, and the website has to keep up with both.
Approach
We rebuilt the site on Webflow with a CMS the team runs themselves, then connected it to the tools they already use. Events published in Eventbrite appear on the website automatically. Newsletter signups go straight into Constant Contact, with spam filtered out before it gets there. Every integration runs on infrastructure Blackwood owns.
When the website was done, the work kept going. Under a full partnership, we built Blackwood an app of its own at app.blackwoodland.org, in the same colors as the website, where the team signs in to see what is happening across the organization.
Execution
Project highlights include:
- A custom Webflow site with CMS-driven programs, events and field notes
- An Eventbrite sync that puts every published event on the website, with a nightly check that keeps the two in step
- A newsletter signup connected to Constant Contact and protected by Cloudflare Turnstile
- Website forms that are verified, emailed to the right people and logged in the team's app
- A multi-step school and group visit request that adapts to schools, groups and other visitors
- A team app with a form submissions inbox, ticket sales tracked against each event's target, an early warning when an event needs a push, and a guest list for every event
- Analytics, Search Console, structured data and an llms.txt file from launch
- Drone footage of the Landfarm and the Skyfarm, color graded and handed to Blackwood's team to edit
Outcome
Blackwood's team updates its own website, events appear without double entry, and the numbers that matter, like ticket sales against target, are on one screen. The partnership keeps growing with them. Next on the roadmap are school accounts and registrations, built on the same foundation.
